7/6/2011    Legislature Ends Challenging Session

The New York State Legislature adjourned on Friday, June 24th. NYSSLHA faced a number of difficult issues in 2011 including cuts to the Early Intervention (EI) Program and Medicaid visit limitations on speech and other therapies. However, there were a number of victories. (more)
6/17/2011    EI Delays Implementation of 15 Minute Increments

Brad Hutton, of the Early Intervention Program, announced on June 14, that the DOH will delay implementation of the 15 minute increment billing until October 1, 2011. (more)
2/2/2011    Early Intervention Scheduled for More Cuts in State Budget

Yesterday, Governor Cuomo released his 2011-12 proposed Executive Budget which contains an across the board 10% rate reduction for all Early Intervention (EI) providers. (more)
11/23/2010    Geneseo Deactivates CDS program

SUNY Geneseo recently announced the deactivation of its Communication Disorders and Sciences program due to budget shortfalls. 8/26/2010    AG Declares NYS Licensure and ASHA CCCs Equivalent

The NY Attorney General's office declared the NYS License is equivalent to the ASHA CCCs, allowing professionals with a NYS license to provide speech therapy and audiological evaluations for Medicaid recipients and to sign-off on Medicaid billing. (more)
7/19/2010    NYSSLHA Loses One of its Founders

(July 19, 2010 – Latham, NY) The New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA) lost one of its founders, Oliver Bloodstein, a major founding father of the modern field of speech-language pathology, and an internationally respected expert on stuttering, on July 4, 2010 at the age of 89. The New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA) awarded a $1500 scholarship to College of St. Rose graduate student Lauren Baker and one to College of St. Rose undergraduate student Katelynn Carroll as part of their 50th annual convention. (more)

(April 26, 2010 - Albany, NY) – The New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA) held a 50/50 Raffle in honor of its 50th annual convention to benefit the NYS Special Olympics Healthy Athlete program and Operation Smile.

5/13/2009    NYSSLHA Victory on Hearing Aid Dispense Bill

Legislation (S5257 Hassell-Thompson) to allow physicians to dispense hearing aids on a for-profit basis was recently introduced in the State Senate. Two weeks after introduction of this bill, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson “struck the enacting clause” of the legislation, effectively killing the bill. (more)
