Changes to Requirements for TSSLD/TSHH Applicants

As of September 1, 2009, the New York State Office of Teaching Initiatives requires applicants for both initial and professional certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities as well as those progressing from a provisional certificate to a permanent certificate as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped to take a state-approved three-hour course or training in the needs of students with autism.

This provision applies to anyone in the above listed categories, as well as other special education providers as outlined in the regulations, who will be applying for certification after September 1, 2009.
