A “Common Factors” Approach to Stuttering Intervention for Children: Technique
The emphasis on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in speech-language pathology requires us to provide therapy that considers not only treatment efficacy research, but also our clinical experience and our client’s values. In contemporary practice, it is often the case that we give the first of these components, the therapeutic technique, the most weight in therapy planning. We will consider the specific techniques known to facilitate change in children who stutter.

A “Common Factors" Approach to Stuttering Intervention for Children: Extratherapeutic Change, Therapeutic Relationship and Hope
In contemporary practice, it is often the case that we give the limited weight to the so-called “common factors” that cut across all therapy approaches, regardless of the specific techniques that are taught. In this presentation, we will consider other factors, besides technique, that influence treatment outcome for children who stutter.
