Addressing the Educational Needs of Children with Cochlear Implants: The Role of the Speech and Hearing Professional
Presented by: Patricia M. Chute, Ed.D.
This course will review the profiles of children at the time of candidacy and relate them to performance outcomes. In addition, strategies for developing auditory learning activities using classroom curriculum will be reviewed. Concepts of mapping for school personnel and how they can contribute to the process will also be included. The role that school professionals play relative to the use of FM systems and other assistive listening devices will be presented. Finally, the participant will engage in a culminating activity to bring together the knowledge obtained during this workshop so that he/she will be able to predict performance based on published benchmarks for children with cochlear implants.
