Student Scholarship

The New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Inc. awards two student scholarships during its annual convention each spring. Specifically, one $1500 undergraduate scholarship and one $1500 graduate scholarship are awarded.

A NYSSLHA scholarship can help provide the resources a student needs to embark on an exciting and fulfilling career in speech-language pathology, audiology or speech and hearing science.

How the Program Works
Students submit a scholarship application to the student program committee for review. At our annual convention, undergraduate applicants will prepare and present a poster of the student's research results for judging. Graduate students must prepare and present a powerpoint presentation of their research. There may be more than one student author on each application, but if selected for a scholarship, authors will share the total amount of the scholarship award. Accepted sessions will be presented at NYSSLHA’s annual convention where a panel of judges will review and score the submissions. The undergraduate and graduate sessions receiving the highest score will be awarded a scholarship.

Student Scholarship Criteria
All student submissions that meet the following criteria are eligible for a student scholarship.
• The applicant(s) must be student member(s) in good standing of the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• The applicant(s) must be matriculating in a speech-language pathology, audiology or speech and hearing sciences program.
• All projects must be sponsored by a faculty member, although the faculty member’s presence is not required at convention.
• Grant-funded research projects will not be accepted.
• Only student-generated research will be accepted.
